Maori patterns

 These past 2 weeks the year 8s of Pt England School were drawing koru designs.
On the left is a photo of my koru I drew. The koru I drew doesn't really have a meaning, I just drew anything I felt like drawing. The first steps for drawing this koru, was to plan it out on a small piece of paper. After that you had to draw the same thing but on a bigger piece of paper. Then we had to paint our paper. The final steps we had to do was scribble the back of our paper and draw it over a big piece of wood, doing that will outline what you drew on your paper, onto the piece of wood. Finally I painted it, and that picture on the left is what it turned out to be.

T-bag

 If you want, subscribe to this man

Why did the tea bag float when we burnt it? To make a tea bag float you need to empty the tea bag. Then put air in it, after that light the top of it and once all of the tea bag burns it will float up in the air eventually turning into ashes. This happens because the air inside the tea bag warms up causing it to rise up.

Astria Game review

This weeks Extension class played a game called Astria. It was kind of hard but I got the hang of it. Astria in my opinion is a strategy/adventure type game. The only thing I hated about that game was all the reading. But overall its a good game.
Me and my friend Marshal had to work together and talk about what we were thinking. The game is about an asteroid that is going to hit a planet and it's you're job to save it.

Lady pink

Sandra Fabara aka Lady Pink uses line colour and shape in her artwork. Lady pink draws quite a lot of woman to show how girls can do anything and all girls should be equal with men.

What makes a good leader

What makes a good leader?
What makes a good leader to you? I think a great leader a
role model and a person that encourages others is a good
leader to me.
A great leader is someone that helps people with
something they don’t know how to do, just like a teacher.
Just teach them a thing or to. An example of a great leader
is Bill Gates who has donated 50 million dollars to charity.
You could also get people to think you are a great role model.
Ways to do that is maybe help people cross the road or help
carry their groceries. Or you could donate a lot of money to
charity like Bill gates and you would probably be well known
in some places.
Maybe you can encourage others and get to know everyone,
have little chats together. Just try to be a well known person
for doing good, that way it makes you feel like a good leader
and others will think you are a great role model.
Remember to help people be a role model and encourage
others. You might get some good back, just try to do
something that will help someone every once in a while.

Paideia Seminar

On 24th of October on Wednesday. The Extension class had another paideia seminar. The whole class was split in 6 groups Teachers, Shop Owners, Nutritionists, Athletes, Doctors and Parents. Each group had a talk about the main effects of a unhealthy diet and the difference between a fit and unfit person and more.

The one shocking fact that I learnt in that seminar was that 69% of Polynesians are overweight. We had a look at how we could stop some people from being obese, my conclusion was to make some gyms around New Zealand and make them free Specifically for Obese people over like 60 - 70kgs or more. Did you know that over 600 000 people die in America just from heart disease?

Attitude talk with Tony

                                                       Talk with Tony
Did you know that girls start growing tall before boys?
On 17/10/18 a man with a big sense of humour came to our school, he taught us all about puberty and the effects it does to our body. Boys during puberty can sometimes develop facial hair some pimples or acne, they can also get really hairy legs and maybe hairy armpits, weird enough girls could also (rarely) Grow these too. After puberty you would have at least growed 20 - 25cm tall so keep that in mind.

If you're a boy wondering when you will hit puberty, you wou
ld usually start at around 10 - 13 years old. If you're a girl you will start 8 - 12 years old. One thing I don't really understand is that the fact that girls start growing tall before boys, but yet most boys are still taller than some girls? Anyway that's all I could tell you today, there was a lot more I could have told you, but since the other effects of puberty aren't that PG I can't tell you. hope you enjoyed reading this small Review with Tony, the man with a big sense a humour. Have a good day.

The Mona Lisa replica

This is the mona lisa replica. The only difference is that I have added a extra strand of hair, but it is quite hard to see. Sorry if you can't really see my drawing that well. I have learnt some facts about the Mona Lisa. I actually didn't know it was painted 500 years ago and that it got stolen in 1911. Luckily they found and captured the criminal who did it and sent him to jail. The Mona Lisa actually costs about $800,000,000 dollars. That's more than enough money you need to have to just live for like a century or two. Anyway I hope you like looking at my painting.

  4. (2,3) Hill
  5. (7,1) Tree
  6. (3,3) Tower
  7. (4,2) Brick wall
  8. (1,1) Octopus
The words can be used in a special way to find the coordinates of the buried treasure. Can you work out where it is?

Extension: Could you give directions to the octopus so it can get to the elephant?

Here’s the answer 10 sqaure's.

Move your body skill

Image result for Line danceThis Term we have been learning some skills in Pt England. If you want to know what I mean by skill, we had to pick something we wanted to do like, juggling, line dance, uni cycling and a lot more. The skill I did was line dancing. I didn't really want to do it, but I had to. The song we were dancing to was foot loose. The whole of team 5 and team 3 went in the hall and we took turns showing our skill class by class. My class was actually lucky, since we were the last one to perform. To be honest I actually wanted my class to be first. There was heaps of cool dances like this shuffle dance that these people did and some cultural dances, every class that went up had a really cool dance. When it was my classes turn I was not excited. We did our dance, I was quite embarrassed because I actually didn't know our dance of by heart, so I just followed some people around me. A couple people laughed and giggled. but overall I was happy of my self because I don't normally perform in front of people.

Units of measurement

This week we were learning about measurement and how much cm = a metre, stuff like that. For me this was not as hard as I thought it would have been. Enjoy

Immersion Assembly

Immersion Assembly

On the first day of school on term 3 Pt England had an assembly in the morning showing us all what we will be learning this year. Team 1 finally had a cool movie, in my opinion, sadly I couldn’t remember what their movie was about. Next was team 2 i’m pretty sure there's was about healthy lunch and other things related to that. Team 3 was showing what the teachers do everyday, like have a healthy breakfast, biking to school and kayaking. Team 4 was making games that require you to move your body. The teachers of team 4 asked the kids of team 4 if they could make better games than them. Last but not lease Team 5. Team 5 wasn’t a movie they performed it on stage. Team 5 were doing chi and body stuff. Every day we do fitness and runs because it is part of our health.

Dazzling Decimals 2

Dazzling Decimals 2
This week we are learning to add and subtract up to three decimal places. We are learning to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages.

What is 244/1000 as a decimal = 0.244

What is 55/100 as decimal = 0.55

What is 12/1000 as a decimal = 0.012

What is ½ as a decimal = 0.50

What is ¼ as a decimal =  0.25

What is ⅕  as a decimal = 0.20

What is ⅛ as a decimal = 0.125

0.45 + 0.42 = 0.87

0.56 + 0.17 = 0.73

0.67 + 0.91 = 1.58

0.555 + 0.014 = 0.569

0.7 - 0.45 = 0.25

0.55 - 0.45 = 0.1

0.76 - 0.29 = 0.47

2.5 - 0.78 = 1.72

1.7 - 0.999 = 0.701

0.934 - 0.244 = 0.69

0.944 - 0.119 = 0.825

50/100 = 50%

1/10 = 10%

0.4 = 40%
0.05 = 5%
0.9 = 90%

Inquiry Expo

Inquiry Expo
Our group came up with an awesome experiment that includes a lighter and a spray, all you had to do was light the lighter and spray the flame. And it makes a flamethrower

We had not that much ideas one of ours was setting our hand on fire without it hurting , Making paper planes and showing force and motion And Water.

Out of all of our ideas we narrowed it down to one idea which was paper planes because it was easy to explain and make.

Unfortunately it was a fail because all the work we did was all on Arthur’s chromebook and since he left the school, we had nothing to present  and so we had to try figure out another idea which was the paper planes. But then we had nowhere to sit and present our work to everyone so we didn’t get to finish it

The Next Time we can’t do it again because we will be at college and we won't be able to do an expo again, maybe we will do a expo at college if we go to the same collage, maybe.

Tidus Dangerous Decimals

Dangerous decimals
We are learning to identify the relationship between fractions and decimals

Decimals are fractions of 1 whole.
0.1 is 1/10.
0.01 is 1/100.

What is 2/10 as a decimal = 0.2

What is 6/10 as a decimal = 0.6

What is 7/100 as a decimal = 0.07

What is 18/100 as a decimal = 0.18

What is 1/1000 as a decimal = 0.001

What is 7/1000 as a decimal = 0.007

What is 24/100 as a decimal = 0.24

What is 55/100 as decimal = 0.55

What is 12/10 as a decimal = 1.2

0.5 + 0.3 = 0.8

0.6 + 0.2 = 0.8

0.7 + 0.5 = 1.2

0.5 - 0.1 = 0.4

0.3 + 0.9 = 1.2

5/10 + 0.5 = 1

1/10 + 0.47 = 0.57

5/100 + 0.21 = 0.26

Fractions Finale 2

Fractions Finale

1I want to add ½ with ¼. First I change ½ to  then I add

⅓ + ⅙. ⅓ =  2/6 2/6 + ⅙ = 3/6

¼ + ⅛.  ¼ = 2/8 2/8 + ⅛ = ⅜

How can I change ⅔ into sixths (4/6)

How can I change ⅔ into twelfths (4/12)

⅓ + ¼ = 7/12

⅓ = 2/6   ¼ = 2/8

⅓ + ⅕ = 8/15

⅓ = 2/6   ⅕ = 2/10

⅙ + ⅛ = 16/56
⅙ = 2/12    ⅛ = 2/16

1/10 + 1/100 = 10/100

1/10 + 1/1000 = 100/1000

⅓ + 1/7 = 10/21

¼ + ⅕ = 9/20

⅓ + ⅖ = 11/15

List 5 equivalent fractions for:

¼ = 2/8

⅓ = 2/6

⅕ = 2/10

⅙ = 2/12

Fab Fractions 2

  Fab Fractions
We are learning to identify the relationship between equivalent fractions.

What is 4/4 of 8 = 8   This is the same as 1 whole

What is ⅕ of 10 = 2

What is ⅓ of 12 = 4

What is 2/6 of 12 = 4

What is 1/13 of 26 = 2

What is 2/26 of 26 = 2

What do you notice about these fractions? its only 2 and 4.

Show your working for the remaining questions

I have 2/16 of a cake at a birthday party. I keep going back for more and
eat another  4/8 of a cake. What fraction of a cake have I eaten altogether?
Half of 16 = 8 8 + 2 = 10 10/16

I have 5/20 of a Cake left over from the party. Then I give 1/10 of the cake
to my sisters. What fraction of a cake do I have left over?
1/10 of 20 = 2 2 - 5 = 3 3/20

½ + 2/4 = 2/4 = ½ ½ + ½ = 1 whole

3/6 + ⅔ = 2/3 of 1/6 = 4 4 + 3 = 7 7/6 = 1 1/6

⅕ + 2/10 = 1/5 of 1/10 = 2 2 + 2 = 4/10

⅙ + 4/12 = 1/6 of 1/12 = 2 2 + 4 = 6 6/12

⅕ + 1/15 = 1/5 of 1/15 = 3 3 + 1 = 4 4/15

1/8 + 1/72 = 72/8 = 9 9+ 1 = 10 10/72

1/9 + 1/18 = 1/9 of 1/18 = 2 2 + 1 = 3 3/18

⅕ + ⅙ = 11/30

1/7 + ⅕ = 12/35
